広島県出身。シカゴ大学大学院で修士・博士号取得（宗教・哲学・政治倫理学）。デュポール大学准教授。被ばく被害と倫理に関する研究を行い、大学で「原爆論説」や「核の時代」などの講義を行っている。

著書に『なぜ原爆が悪ではないのか――アメリカの核意識』(岩波書店、2020)、Beyond the Mushroom Cloud: Commemoration, Religion, and Responsibility after Hiroshima（Fordham University Press，2011），A World Otherwise: Environmental Praxis of Minamata (Lexington, 2021), 論文に“ Gendered Bodies in Tokusatsu” The Journal of Popular Culture vol.49，no.5（2016），“In the Light of Hiroshima” Reimagining Hiroshima and Nagasaki（Routledge，2017）などがある。
